Man, just look at that cover shot!
Headlining our forthcoming "Torch Song" series is this
sensational collection by April Stevens.
This wonderful album features many terrific tracks (including many
bonus tracks not on the original album as it was originally released
by Imperial in 1958) with some pretty inventive arrangements by
Henri René and our usual (although we say so ourselves!)
terrific liner notes.
Her recording of "I'm In Love Again" (featured on the
album) was a huge national hit, and straight away the DJ's and the
public alike were under April's spell. Then along came the outrageously
suggestive title track "Teach Me, Tiger! - heard here for the
first time in true stereo - which was actually banned on many radio
stations at the time!
April (real name Carol) and her brother Nino (Antonino Lo Tempio)
scored a huge international hit together in 1964 with "Deep
Purple" funkily arranged by Jimmy Haskell with a close harmony
and dead flat sound. The song was even re-recorded with Italian
lyrics for that country (where they had family roots), but it failed
to ignite there.
